I just found 'freq', and I'm so happy I did! github.com/ryancdotorg/freq

It's a replacement for | sort | uniq -c | sort --numeric-sort
I use this a lot for answering ad-hoc questions about programs

eg "how big are the sets this program is allocating typically?" to answer, stick a print(len(myset)) in a strategic place. then run the program and pipe it into freq to get nicely sorted output with frequencies, percentages, and a cdf
