Good grief. Starlink v2 satellites are generating 32 times more radio emission than previous generations! This is totally blinding to radio telescopes and will stop us doing science in this part of the spectrum.

quite. How long before we see Kesssler syndrome for real? (https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02167-5)
@jpaskaruk @Astromeg Dumb counter point:
Less solar energy hits the earth: cooling it.
Really dumb, I know :)
@Rhodium103 @Astromeg Forget where I originally read this, but the goal for the Starlink project is (as I understood it), to offer a slightly faster rate of data transmission than trans-Atlantic data cables, for a few millisecond's edge in microtrading stocks between London and New York, and more broadly allowing daytrading from yachts and vacation destinations with less robust data links. Every other proposed benefit is just window dressing.
What's a little Kessler Syndrome and damage to astronomy planet wide, in the face of helping parasites make more millions, while contributing nothing of value.
