The default character limit for most Mastodon servers is 500 characters. Now you can schedule longer posts using Buffer by breaking them up into threaded posts.

You can now easily cross-post threads to Mastodon, X, Threads, and Bluesky.

Bonus:

 We've also added the option to add a Content Warning to scheduled Mastodon posts. This was the second most popular Mastodon feature request on our suggestions board.

Once suggestion: Would you consider allowing a variable, editable character limit for posts, instead of the standard 500? My own Mastodon instance has a limit of 2000 characters, and I'd like to make full use of that.

Yes, this is on our radar! Since character limits change based on servers it's a bit complex technically to implement, but our engineers have a few creative ideas for how to handle it. Hopefully we can report back soon that this has been added! - Hailley
