the councilwoman was wrong. It is absolutely not time to “put politics aside”. DeSantis’ actions led to this. He bears at least some significant responsibility for this. To say “be polite” to this piece of shit because of the office he wields - which he’s wielded in service of racists is absurd. Boo DeSantis. Boo him everywhere he goes. Every time he speaks. Forever.
He should not be afforded the privilege of laundering the consequences of his actions with lies. He should not be given the opportunity to turn the tragedy he created into a positive PR moment for his monstrous regime.
I’m originally from Jacksonville, I wouldn’t go back, except I still have family there (and a favorite used bookstore is there). My father taught at two schools there named after Confederates; they changed the names a few years ago, but I’ve been expecting de Rantis to order them changed back.
