Anyone else noticing an absolute boom in Adonis ladybird (Hippodamia variegata) numbers this summer compared to previous years? I normally see perhaps 2 per year but almost 100% of sites I have visited this year have had at least 1-2, so running total is closer to 30!

Same here in Buckie, NE Scotland. They are all over the place.

Interesting, not just a south of England thing then - so probably not just them being blown across from France or something, a genuine boom. At this rate it'll be worth looking into their food preferences and seeing what their role is in managing crop pests!

We've got Speckled Wood butterflies up here that we shouldn't have too.

Ooh, are they not normally present at all, or present but univoltine?

I was informed that someone registered a sighting in the Perth area and was told it was "far too far north to be correct!" I'm a lot further north, I'm in Buckie, and I've seen quite a few.
