The , is a Mast norm that I appreciate as a sort of extended profile and way to coax folks out of simply lurking.
I am a writer, typographer, archivist, and curator who was extremely lucky to get into typography at a time when technology enabled two of my favorite pursuits: building resources and communities.
I happened to be around when:
topical blogging began to reach broad readership (publishing @typographica in 2002),
indie font makers began to find buyers online (joining FontShop in 2004),
the tech could meet the need for crowd-sourced archives of typography (co-founding @FontsInUse in 2010),
someone with a huge collection of design artifacts wanted to open it to a public increasingly aware of type and hungry for inspiration beyond the internet (joining @letterformarchive in 2015).
I am a privileged man who wants to make all this stuff as accessible as possible while learning from as many people as possible. That’s why I’m excited about how the fediverse can help connect and empower diverse communities without threat of corporate or capitalistic control.
