"A new psychological study has found that people who report favorable views of Donald Trump also tend to score higher on measures of callousness, manipulation, and other malevolent traits—and lower on empathy and compassion. The findings, based on two large surveys of U.S. adults, shed light on how personality traits relate to political beliefs, including support for Trump and conservative ideology."

"Can we stop supporting sociopathic leaders? Isn’t it possible to recognize these qualities as dangerous warning signs of unfitness rather than expressions of strength? What does it say about our body politic that so many Americans are drawn to these types of people? Is this attraction a dangerous affliction found in every society? Should there be psychological tests as one guardrail against their continuing success?"

Can We Stop Supporting Sociopathic Leaders?A Saturday Prompt
The body politic is under educated, misled, and easily manipulated. It’s the conditions that allow con men to rise, cult leaders to flourish, and insane men & women to hold political power.
Frankly the conditions of political leadership are conditions that no sane person would subject themselves to allowing space sociopaths, psychopaths, and ego maniacs to assume power. Being president, a cabinet secretary, or high ranking federal politician ruins any personal privacy or normal family life, the only reward is power. Those conditions can that attract horrible people and turn good people bad.
True, except I think we can compare some conspicuous examples of people who embody the psychopathic-narcissistic model of public service and those who, however flawed, seem to be about public service. And I think the tally of narcissistic psychopaths on one side of the political divide far, far exceeds the tally on the other side, no matter how flawed it may be.
Having worked inside Federal government my experience is that, behind closed doors, there are more psychopathic narcissists on either side than you think. They are very good at hiding it and we forgive the ones that are aligned with our preferred causes and directions. Even those that go into service for the right reasons and mentally healthy are often corrupted by the power they are given.
