esbuild is an incredible piece of software. The time for pnpm dev in the Vite repo went from 8s to 300ms and watch mode is in the order of ms.
This project had an incredible impact on my work and every time a build step takes more than 1s, I try to see how the work can be simplified and optimized instead of reaching for complex caching tools written in Rust.

4 years ago @evanw showed us that JS tooling doesn't have to be slow. Since then the impact has been tremendous and esbuild is now such an important part of the JS ecosystem, surpassing webpack in number of downloads!
