@JessMahler@indiepocalypse.social

Jess' weird fish-out-of-water life has left them with an enduring love/hate affair with common tropes. The relationship counselor recommended they break it off, but they just keep coming back to play with tropes (and fuck them up) some more.

In between their tropic indulgences, they write queer fantasy with aromantic, neurodivergent, and generally 'weird' characters, take care of their family, argue halakha, and try to do a bit of educational activism on the side.

(Some details: adopted, queer, disabled, neurodivergent, white settler, Jewish, writer, parent, anti-capitalist. Learning to be anti-racist and learning about decolonization.)

Compare your MC in the beginning and the end of the story. What changed? What’s the same?

At the beginning of the story, Lefeng is an idealistic young nomad who takes eir place in the world for granted and whose view of the world is strongly based on the assumption that nomadism is the 'right' way to live.

By the end of the story, Lefeng has come out the other side of a bitter grief, discovered ey must fight for the life ey wants, and found a new home in a city.
