honestly 2d printing is pretty solved and mature technology at this point, it's just domestic color inkjets that are demonic but we keep buying 'em because we keep falling for the dream of printing glossy photos at home. so we buy into the world's least reliable technology (using little piezoeletric actuators to squirt minute drops of ink out of microscopic nozzles thousands of times a second) coupled to the world's most reviled business model (selling water with dyes in it in nonrecyclable cartridges that cost more per unit mass than caviar)
