How has Gradle managed to break lexical scoping in Kotlin?!?! And more importantly WHY did they break lexical scoping? What a mess!

Typical IntelliJ plugin maintenance routine: need to recompile a plugin with the latest IDE version, this requires updating Kotlin, IntelliJ platform Gradle plugin (potentially rewriting build.gradle), and of course, updating Gradle, maybe JDK. Could this be less of a big bang?

@dkandalov is probably one of the best people to teach you how to use IntelliJ. He knows every nook and cranny, both as a programmer and a plugin author.
