Lecturer @ University of Glasgow's GIST section. Research about Gaze, Eye, and Body Interaction in HCI and AR/VR (they/them/he/him).
First one: I'm a postdoc a Lancaster University, UK, researching gaze in AR/VR. Before that, I've was a member of the Virtual Worlds and Digital Games Group (VWDG) at Ilmenau University of Technology, Germany. In general, my research is about and in and technologies. My PhD was about the impact, possibilities, and limitations of AR on future in-vehicle user interfaces (finished 2021, yay!).
Last week, I gave a talk at Lancaster University about my experience, impressions, and lessons learned while applying for and eventually getting a lecturer position in the UK.
The road to a lectureship can be really stressful and opaque. I think we as a community should share more openly how we navigated it, what worked, what didn鈥檛, and what we鈥檇 do differently.
Here are the slides, in case it鈥檚 useful to anyone going through the same: https://florianweidner.de/content/TalksAndPresentations/2025-06-27-Lectureship-LessonsLearned.pdf
