APFS is the perfect example of ‘be careful what you wish for’. Folks want advanced features but then complain that those features mess with their simple model of how things work. You can’t simultaneously have cloning /and/ 2 + 2 = 4 disk space logic. So while that are implementation choices that don’t help [1], there are fundamental issues in play.

[1] APFS does async disk space reclaim, and the Finder’s CacheDelete integration means it out and out lies about free space.
