I still have the NFC part in there, so I can always reset it with that, or a button in my "pets" dashboard.
I hadn't actually thought about the times we may not be here. Now that you mention it; I am tracking when we are away, so i think I'll just add that as a condition to the automation. As long as one person is home, someone can let the dogs out. I'll just have to be smarter about who to send the alerts to when it's not done and someone is home :)
Today I made remind me to take out our dogs.
I have a timer that counts down, and if the timer expires, it sends me a notification to take them out. Timer is reset when I take them out.
Initially I was scanning an NFC tag to reset the timer. But now, I configured frigate to detect dogs on my back porch. When a dog is detected, the timer resets. As long as the dogs go outside before the timer expires, I should never actually need reminded, but will if I lose track of time.
