It makes sense to me that a group of people for whom suffering plays a massive role in their collective biography & more importantly overcoming suffering or persisting in spite of suffering, would believe that suffering is necessary for success, & impact their parenting.

I haven’t done the research so purely anecdotal but “tough love” cultures (poor/working class cultures, various African cultures, etc) encourage parenting styles that are harsh not just bc the world is harah but also bc harshness is the condition where success is formed.
