Kölner Forscher*innen haben einen wichtigen Schritt in der Behandlung der STING-assoziierten Vaskulopathie mit Beginn im Säuglingsalter (SAVI) gemacht. Die ist eine schwerwiegende genetische Erkrankung, die bislang nicht heilbar ist.
Dr. Gianmaria Liccardi und sein Team hat herausgefunden, dass die Aktivierung des STING-Proteins den programmierten Zelltod auslöst, der bei SAVI-Patienten unkontrolliert abläuft. Eine Blockierung dieses Signalwegs könnte helfen
