A colorful 13" MacBook/iBook at $600, with Apple Silicon performance — if the rumors are true — sounds like the single best selling Mac in history. Are we actually going to see meaningful changes to Apple's desktop PC marketshare?

Same price as the basic M4-based Mac mini, hmmm. Maybe we can also get a less expensive Mac mini again? $399 for an A18-based mini would be excellent…

I remember when Mac struggled to get between 1-3%. Now it’s ~20%. “More meaningful changes” is probably more accurate.

As for the strategy. Totally makes sense. Expanding the user base brings in more services revenue even if they don’t make significant margin on the device sale.

@biggsjm@mastodon.social @stroughtonsmith@mastodon.social Yeah I feel for all the low income people getting finally that coveted privilege of using Apple products … only to discover it has become like printers & ink: there’s a reason the printer is free (or nearly).

Re-use the design from the M1 MBA with nice colors and a white keyboard/screen border like the M-iMacs and it'll sell like hotcakes
