I was hoping to see that sort of functionality directly in when applying system updates that don't touch the kernel, but it seems some piece of the puzzle is missing here (maybe a hybrid of 's "soft-reboot" and 's "system-upgrade"): https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/-/issues/2427
