Eight babies have been born in Britain using DNA from three people rather than two, to prevent them inheriting deadly mitochondrial disease. The pioneering technique, in which an embryo from the baby’s parents is combined with a second egg from a donor woman with healthy mitochondria, has successfully produced four girls and four boys without the incurable condition.
