I'm areligious, but I find Dan McClennan's YouTube channel incredibly fascinating, especially from an academic standpoint.
Every so often he takes a strong stand when something comes across his radar and he needs to speak up.
I love how he lights into christian bully and fascist appeaser Speaker Mike Johnson who tries to hide behind scripture.

Due to political reasons (he actively supported Ukrainian independence and he was bisexual) director Sergei Parajanov was imprisoned for 4yrs in a hard labor camp despite outside support for his freedom by artists & intellectuals (including Americans John Updike, Robert De Niro, Martin Scorsese, etc). upon his release the KGB countinued to hound him and periodically detain him. He returned to filmmaking in the late 80s before his passing due to lung cancer in 1990
